Foodbank manager's pride at meeting the king

A FOODBANK manager and borough councillor told of his feeling of honour and privilege after meeting the king – and talking about sell-by dates!

Sean Gibbons, who represents Mexborough First, was picked to meet the monarch during his visit to Doncaster last week in recognition of the work of Mexborough Foodbank and FoodAware, the latter of which the councillor is the MD.

“It was an absolute honour and a privilege to meet and speak with King Charles III as he and the Queen Consort visited the Mansion House to confer Doncaster’s City status,” he said.

“I was hugely proud to represent Food Aware and every one of our volunteers who work tirelessly each week to support those less fortunate across South Yorkshire communities.”

Cllr Gibbons said he can be seen in the photo discussing supermarket sell-by dates with the king and the “appalling amount of food waste”.
