Fire service ask police to patrol Canklow after repeat incidents

SOUTH Yorkshire Fire and Rescue had asked the police to step in and start extra patrols in Canklow after seeing a number of repeat fire incidents.

SOUTH Yorkshire Fire and Rescue has asked the police to begin extra patrols in Canklow after seeing a number of repeat incidents. 

Two fires were reported in Canklow last night, just over an hour-and-a-half apart and were started in similar places.

A number of other smaller fires have happened in Canklow over the last few days.

A crew from Parkway station was called to Canklow Road just after 7.30pm as they drove back from another incident. 

The fire was on the corner of Centenary Way and involved some rubbish and trees in a small wooded area, said a spokeswoman for South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue.

"The fire was dealt with by 7.50pm," she added.

Firefighters from Rotherham station were called out to the second Canklow fire of the night, again on Canklow Road, just after 9pm.

"This was another incident in a similar spot, on the corner of Centenary Way, and involved grassland," said the spokeswoman. "The crew left the scene just after 9.30pm

"Both fires were believed to have been started deliberately and the police were asked to patrol the area to stop further incidents."
