Family's thanks for "support and prayers" after body of missing woman found

THE family of a Rotherham woman who went missing in the Canary Islands said they were “beyond devastated” after her body was found.

Ashley Williams’ daughter Laura Smith and husband Paul Williams both appealed on social media for news on Tuesday as she had not been seen since early the previous day.

But Ms Smith said on Tuesday night that her mum’s body had been found.

She said in a Facebook post: “It is with broken hearts that we sit here together in Tenerife and must unfortunately update that this morning mum’s body was found.

“We are beyond devastated, and ask at this time you give us the privacy to process this and facilitate bringing her home.”

The family’s appeals had been widely shared on social media, including more than 200 times by Advertiser Facebook followers.

Ms Smith thanked everyone for their “support, comments and prayers”.

Mrs Williams is understood to have been previously of the Flanderwell area.
