“This is your wildlife, these are our farmers who put the food on our plates."

A DEER was run over and killed “intentionally” by quad bike gangs who are ruining the countryside, according to South Yorkshire Police’s Rural Policing team.

The roe deer was struck on Sunday evening along farmland close to Firbeck and Laughton after more than ten quad bikes were reported to have crossed through crop fields in the area.

Rural officers said they were concerned by the incident and would be investigating further after similar incidents were committed in the area including a new born lamb that was stolen in Micklebring earlier this month.

A spokesperson for the rural policing team said: “Several badgers and hares have been found in the area in recent months with injuries consistent with being run over or killed by dogs where quad bikes have all been used to facilitate.

“This is your wildlife, these are our farmers who put the food on our plates.

“Quad enabled criminality is having a devastating effect on our countryside and for all those who live in it.”
