Covid-19 testing centre for essential workers pops up at New York Stadium

ROTHERHAM United's AESSEAL New York Stadium is being used as base for Covid-19 testing from today.

ROTHERHAM United's AESSEAL New York Stadium is being used as base for Covid-19 testing from today.

After talks with the EFL, the Millers are welcoming representatives from the Department of Health and Social Care to the stadium to allow them to carry out coronavirus testing for selected essential workers.

The tests will take place for three days and are by invitation only for key workers, with no drop-in appointments available.

Rotherham United chairman, Tony Stewart said: "We feel privileged to be providing a venue for the DoHSC to carry out important testing on essential workers from Rotherham and beyond.

"We are delighted to be helping to facilitate tests for those people who put themselves at risk everyday to provide a number of services that we would struggle to cope without.

"The club has been active in the community in a whole host of different ways since the early stages of the Covid-19 outbreak and we saw this as another opportunity to be able to offer our support during the pandemic."

Mr Stewart added that on behalf of everyone at Rotherham United, he would again like to thank all those people in key worker roles and also the DoHSC, who are working hard in the fight against the pandemic.
