The new addition at Harthill Primary has been designed to bring a more modern feel to the existing stone-built campus.

An artist impression included in a report by architects Lungfish features cladding in yellow, red, blue and grey on the four-room block.

The report said: “The building will be a permanent replacement of temporary classroom buildings,  which are some 50 years old and way beyond the end of their natural life.

“The proposed building will be a fun, modern design to relate to children rather than a pastiche of the existing school.

“Teaching spaces have been carefully designed to include external large windows giving a view to outside and affording good levels of daylight in both the summer and winter months.”

The single-storey, flat-roof building would be delivered to the school, on Union Street, after being assembled elsewhere.
