A RUBBISH fire at a historic town centre building was started deliberately.

Firefighters were called to an arson attack at Imperial Buildings in Rotherham just before noon on Monday, a spokesperson for South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue said.

Rubbish had been deliberately set alight in the atrium but there was no damage to the grade II-listed building, added the spokesperson.

Firefighters left the scene at 1.20pm.
