Sheffield Crown Court heard how Day robbed Lloyds Pharmacy on September 1 last year armed with a knife, forcing three members of staff into the back room before making off with tablets and cash from the till.

He then robbed a McColls store on September 3, threatening staff with a knife before making off with cash from the till, as well as alcohol and cigarettes.

Day also admitted two charges of possession of a bladed article.

Det Sgt Tom Jordan said: “Being involved in an armed robbery is a terrifying experience and understandably can leave people traumatised.

“I am pleased that the judge has passed a sentence which reflects Day’s reckless actions.”
