Workshop aims to protect green belt

A WORKSHOP will be held to help Rotherham folk work together in protecting the green belt from inappropriate development.

The Campaign to Protect Rural England has organised the event at Voluntary Action Rotherham, Coke Hill, next Thursday (4) at 4.30pm.

The aim is to bring together groups who are concerned about proposals in the Local Plan, currently going through consultation.

CPRE planning officer Andrew Wood said: “We want to protect Rotherham’s green belt  from new developments that would cause one town or village to sprawl into the next.

“The big problem now is that developers are gaining the upper hand over communities in dictating what is built and where.”
