WOMEN’S INSTITUTE (EVENING GROUP): This month’s meeting was a craft evening. Members made Christmas cards and a Christmas gift box. The centenary coffee morning was on September 16. The Federation Quiz took place on October 2 but the group’s team was not among the winners. The Chantry Autumn Lunch was held on September 15. Members were informed of various emails – one about a competition to design a new logo for the SY Federation badge. Another was an invitation to attend a session of Countdown. A third was offering a discount on airport parking and the fourth sought volunteer drivers for Rotherham Hospice. Joyce reported from the Chantry Group and their Autumn council meeting. Various events were announced – Chantry Group carol service on December 7, a Deck the Halls workshop at Letwell on November 28, the Federation carol service in Sheffield on December 14. Sylvia Atkinson plans to give the second part of her talk next July. The Whiston group is 28 this year and two founder members, Jean Overend and Margaret Jervis, were present at the meeting. The competition was a homemade craft item won by Anthea Goodman, 2nd Margaret Denis, 3rd Margaret Tupling. Anthea also won the raffle prize. The next meeting is on November 12 and will be the AGM.

 

MEET YOUR COUNCILLORS: Julie Turner and Allen Cowles are at Broom Lane Methodist Church on the first and third Mondays of each month 6-7pm and at Whiston Parish Hall on the second and fourth Mondays 6-7pm. No appointments necessary.
