PARISH CHURCH: January 29 was Candlemas which was celebrated both at St Mary’s in the morning and with Whiston Methodist Church in the evening. The Octopus Club met in the Parish Hall 4pm on February 3. On February 4, the Standing Committee met and the Deanery Synod met at Catcliffe. Contact Dhoe 01709 364430.

METHODIST CHURCH: The clearance sale on january 30 raised £138 for church funds. The Junior Church met on January 31 led by Jed Davis. The evening service, a joint one with the parish church, was led by Rev Jenny Park. On February 2 a meeting was held to continue planning for the 150th anniversary. The Over 21s group met on February 3.

APOLOGIES: For anyone planning to attend the Heritage Society meeting on Tuesday. Our column last week included the wrong date with the meeting actually taking place on February 2.
