HOWDY PARTNERS: DMBC Tickhill and Wadworth ward councillors James Hart and Alan Smith, along with local authority Safer Neighbourhood Team member Richard Marshall and town councillors, attended the Partnership Meeting in the Tithes Lane Pavilion. Among the subjects discussed were fracking and the care and maintenance of the town’s trees. The meeting heard that the DMBC programme of the inter-planting of new lime trees along Bawtry Road between the existing lime trees is proceeding with the north side of the road being completed by the end of March. Planting on the south side of the carriageway, which will require traffic management, is due to be carried out later this year. Maintenance work is to be carried out on trees alongside Rotherham Road. Plans to welcome the Tour de Yorkshire to the town on April 30 are to include the appointment of a Tickhill tour maker. Townsfolk who are willing to take on the role of stewards on the day are needed.

BEER WE GO: A beer festival is being held at the Scarbrough Arms on April 30, the day when the Tour de Yorkshire hits town and when the annual scarecrow festival is being staged. Cycling enthusiasts will also be able to see the two-wheeled action live on the big screen at the Sunderland Street hostelry and also hear live music.

FRENCH CONNECTION: Christine Phinn, a member of Tickhill’s Les Francophiles de Tickhill (French Society), would like to hear from townsfolk who want to be involved in the potential town twinning with St Jouan des Guerets in Brittany near St Malo. Christine has raised the profile of such a liaison by discussing the subject with Tickhill Town Council. Simon Thomson is the guest speaker at the Les Francophiles de Tickhill meeting on April 6 where he will talk about Roman Monuments in the south of France 7.30pm in the Parish Room. Members free, visitors £3.

The event was part of the Clean for the Queen Elizabeth II nationwide campaign that will celebrate Her Majesty’s 90th birthday.

NEW HOUSES: Tickhill Town Council (TTC) has raised no objection to the plans submitted to DMBC by a member of the public seeking to build a pair of semi-detached houses and two single detached garages on land between 16 and 22 Vine Road off Sunderland Street following the demolition of an existing side conservatory and garage at 16 Vine Road. TTC has raised an objection to plans that seek to build an extension to a property at 26 Lindrick Close on the grounds that it considers it to be an over-development of the site and close to neighbouring boundaries.

CONFIRMATION SERVICE: Bishop of Sheffield Rt Rev Steven Croft leads the Deanery Confirmation service at St Mary’s Parish Church on April 7.
