PARTNERS MEET: Matters that affect the community were discussed by Tickhill Town Council, DMBC Wadworth and Tickhill ward councillors and DMBC’s safer families coordinator at the monthly Partnership Meeting in the Tithes Lane Pavilion. The subjects included the continued planting by DMBC of new lime trees alongside Bawtry Road to supplement those already planted. The meeting agreed that the invited audience that attended the lighting of the beacon in the grounds of Tickhill Castle on the evening of the Queen’s 90th birthday enjoyed the historic occasion. A beacon, the exact site of which has yet to be agreed, will be lit once again later in the year to mark the Queen’s official birthday. It is understood that a meeting will take place this month to form a Tickhill Library charitable committee and that the long awaited changeover from it being a DMBC-run library to a Tickhill Community Library-run facility could take place in July. Representatives of the local authority plan to visit The Oak pub, Northgate to monitor noise and nuisance levels in connection with the Thursday evening bike nights. The surface of the Drury Lane walkway that links Market Place with St Mary’s Road has been repaired. It was suggested that the opening of the new Finningley and Rossington Regeneration Route Scheme (FARRS) link road has had the affect of reducing traffic passing through Tickhill at peak times.

CHURCH ELECTION: Officials were elected at the Annual Parishioners and Annual Parochial Church Council meeting in St Mary’s Parish Church. Judith Black, Eluned Foulds and Stewart Millard were elected as churchwardens. Noreen Sweed and Margaret Jones were elected as lay members of the Deanery Synod. Kate Arrowsmith, Phil Beavers, Sue Beavers, Margaret Culloden, Hazel Horrigan, John Horrigan, John Marsden, Elaine Millard, David Morley, Elizabeth Rennison, Phil Thomas, Nigel Wright and Stephanie Wilson were elected as lay members of the Parochial Church Council.

BIRTHDAY BEACON: Two members of the public attended the meeting of Tickhill Town Council in the Tithes Lane Pavilion and raised the matter of the community beacon lighting on April 21 to celebrate the Queen’s 90th birthday. Tickhill Town Council organised the event in conjunction with Barry and Deborah Moss who live in the house within the castle grounds of the castle. It is understood that an invited attendance of around 100 townsfolk was expected to participate in the celebration. At the council meeting a lengthy discussion took place between councillors and the two members of the public and the council acknowledged that lessons needed to be learned as a result of the invitation-only event.

IDEA FLOATED: Local organisations, societies, businesses, groups and individuals have an opportunity to enter a float in the parade at the annual Scout Gala on July 2. The procession of decorated floats traditionally wends its way through the town to the Tithes Lane recreation ground prior to the start of the show.
