KIVETON PARK INDEPENDENT ADVICE CENTRE: A drop-in session, with no appointment necessary, will be held on Thursday 2-4pm at the Welfare Hall in Thurcroft. To contact (office hours) 01909 773966. The AGM is due to be held on June 8 5.30pm at the main centre within Kiveton Park Library. This is a public meeting and anyone can attend.

 

THURCROFT PARISH COUNCIL: Meeting held on May 26. The minutes of the meeting held on March 31 were approved. Cllrs Alsop and Ronksley from Laughton Common updated members of the final proposed schemes for the development of Hangsman’s Lane play area and presented three surfacing options for consideration. Option one Wetpore, option two Tarmac, option three Durasport. Resolved that option two be approved, and three estimates be presented to the next meeting. Resolved that RMBC submission of Rotherham Local Plan sites and policies document and consultation on the Draft Rotherham Town Centre Supplementary Planning Document be referred to the chairman for consideration. Resolved that the information re RMBC Developing and Implementing Landscape Improvements Services be received. Resolved that a representative from RMBC Libraries and Customer Services consultation be invited to attend the next meeting of the council to discuss the future vision for library and customer services. Resolved that information be received and utilised to inform the council’s review of Rotherham Crematorium and Cemeteries – Charges for 2016/17. Resolved that a request for financial assistance from St Simon and St Jude’s Parish Church be referred to the Annual Grants allocation meeting. Cllr Ainsworth referred to the continuing impasse relating to RMBC’s refusal to effect repairs on the Brampton Road footpath and the difficulty in obtaining competitive quotations regarding installation of supply feeds for potential Christmas lighting provision in Brampton en le Morthen.

CRAFT GROUP: 42 attended – seven sewing, three knitting, two crocheting, eight die cutting, two working on Pergamono, three using new rubber stamps, seven working on decoupage, four using new embossing boards and six putting general cards together.

 

LITTLE SAINTS: Moira, Irene and mums assisted the little ones as they played with the Happyland toys and made pictures from coloured shapes.

 

FRIDAY CLUB: Moira, Irene and mums assisted the young ones as they continued with the Myths and Legends theme, with minotaurs and unicorns, colouring in pictures to take home, while others played table games.

 

ALZHEIMER’S AND DEMENTIA MEMORY CAFÉ: Meet on the first Tuesday of each month at the Gordon Bennett Memorial Hall, Green Arbour Road 1.30-3.30pm.

ROTHER VALE COMMUNITY BAND: This is a brass band set up to provide an opportunity for anyone who wishes to play or learn a brass instrument. The band is keen to recruit new members. The band practices every Saturday at Thurcroft Parish Church 9.30-11am. Participants will be provided with a brass instrument and expert tuition for a weekly subscription of £2. ST SIMON AND ST JUDE’S PARISH CHURCH: Rev Tim Leach led the service on May 25 morning and Rt Rev Peter Burrows, Bishop of Doncaster, made a return to the church last Sunday and led the morning’s service. The summer fair is on June 25. The next car boot/table top sale is on June 25 9am-12pm then every six weeks.

 

THURCROFT WELFARE BAND: The band has vacancies for a front row and back row cornet player, also a bass player. To book the band, visit www.thurcroftwelfareband.co.uk. The Senior Band is playing on June 11 at Harthill Church 7.30pm for the Queen’s birthday celebration concert and on June 12 at Westwood Care Home 2pm. The band practices each Tuesday and Thursday 7.15pm.
