ROYAL BRITISH LEGION: Mexborough, Swinton and Kilnhurst branches meet for their informal meeting inside the Rowms Lane Social Club, Rowms Lane, Swinton (previously called the LNER Club) 11am on the third Sunday of every month. Veterans, serving members and supporters of The Royal British Legion are invited. An informal coffee morning is held at the same venue on the first Sunday of every month 11am-noon. The Legion holds a car boot and table top sale, at the same venue, on the fourth Sunday of every month, fee £5, 10am set up for 11am start, free admission to the public. CHARITY FISHING MATCH: A fundraising fishing match on the Mexborough Canal is being organised by David Geldard to raise cash for Sheffield’s Weston Park Hospital. The event on July 31 will start 7.30am. Entry fee £10. Donated prizes to give to competitors are sought. To enter or donate a prize, contact Dave 07763352362.

COUNCILLORS’ SURGERY TIMES: Swinton ward councillors Victoria Cusworth, Stuart Sansome and Ken Wyatt hold weekly advice surgeries at Swinton Library and Customer Service Centre every Wednesday 4-5pm. The ward covers Swinton (up to and including St Margaret’s Church) and Kilnhurst (Highthorn Road up to St Thomas’s Church and the new houses off Wharf Road).
