MALTBY TOWN COUNCIL: The meeting on July 2 was attended by 16 councillors, town clerk Mrs K Butler and members of the public. A letter was received from the Maltby Miners Memorial Community Group inviting the chairman and all councillors to the memorial on July 28, commemorating the lives lost in the 1923 mining disaster. An invitation was received from the churchwardens of St Bartholomew’s Church inviting the chairman to the service to celebrate the reopening of the church. An email had been received from Paul Griffiths at RMBC inviting two members of the council to the Local Plan Member Drop-in session. It was resolved that Cllrs Spilsbury and Carratt attend. The clerk updated that the stained glass windows had now been collected by York Glazier Trust and the restoration project will commence in January 2016. The clerk also informed that the council will receive an invitation to go to York and view the windows whilst they are being restored. The clerk updated that she had contacted three separate departments within RMBC and none could remember any consultation taking place about Limetree Park. Cllr Andrews requested that this was an agenda item at the next meeting. It was resolved that the clerk contacts RMBC planning department to request a meeting with a planning officer to ascertain what the borough’s input is into the neighbourhood plan. The clerk updated that to date she could not find out any information about the future of the fire station and library building. It was resolved that the clerk arranges for the fencing to be placed between the houses and Rotherham Road Allotments. It was agreed that the council would purchase a defibrillator funded by Maltby’s borough councillors, Cllrs Rushforth, Beaumont and Godfrey. Any shortfall would be covered by the Town Council. The meeting was told that there had been a problem with the distribution of the newsletter. Ways were being considered to prevent this happening again. It was resolved that clerk contact Aldi to ascertain what the current situation is with the proposed build and to advise them of the present condition of the site and of the vandalism taking place. It was resolved that the loop system in Edward Dunn Memorial Hall be looked into to check if it is working properly. It was agreed that Town Council surgery take place on the first Saturday of the month. The council agreed to give a donation of £100 to Age UK. It was agreed that Town Council sponsor a bouncy castle for the Model Village Gala at a cost of £200. It was agreed that Ashton Court be granted use of tables from the Edward Dunn Memorial Hall for their summer fayre.

MALTBY TOWN COUNCIL EXTRAORDINARY MEETING: The meeting on July 16 was attended by 13 councillors and town clerk Mrs Kate Butler. It was agreed that the Town Council purchase the land on Walters Road which was the former site of Crags Nursery.

MALTBY TOWN COUNCIL HORTICULTURAL SHOW WORKING PARTY: The meeting was attended by eight members of the working party and administrative assistant Rebecca Grayson. It was resolved that Cllr S Johnson be appointed chairman and Cllr M Richardson be appointed vice-chairman. It was agreed that the show schedules be delivered to various places around the borough and that it be uploaded onto the Maltby Town Council website. It was agreed that the winners of each category of the Garden Competition would receive a trophy, replica and rosette. Those placed second and third would receive a rosette. First, second and third places on each allotment site would receive a rosette. The overall winner would receive a salver. At the Horticultural Show, first, second and third in each class would receive prize money. Overall winners for each section would receive a trophy and replica. In the Children’s Section, first, second and third places will receive a rosette. All entrants in the Children’s Section will receive a certificate. The judges for the Garden Competition would be Mr P Johnson, Mr A Bews and Cllr D Sutton. The Allotment Competition would be judged by Mr P Scholey and Cllr M Richardson. It was agreed to ask Cllr A Fletcher if he would be able to take photographs at the presentation. It was agreed to contact Tesco in Maltby to see if they could provide vegetables for the children’s vegetable monster competition.

MALTBY TOWN COUNCIL GENERAL PURPOSES COMMITTEE: The meeting was attended by five councillors and town clerk Mrs Kate Butler. It was resolved that Cllr S Biggin be appointed chair and Cllr J Bradford vice-chair. It was resolved that the clerk contacts Dignity again to ascertain if they will be carrying out any work to the railings. The clerk informed the meeting that more work needed to be carried out in the pods and storage boxes may need to be purchased for parts of the marquees. It was requested that the clerk brings costings for litter bins to the next meeting. It was resolved that charges for the hire of the main hall and conference room be increased from September. The charge for the main hall would be £12.50 per hour and the conference room £9.50 per hour. It was resolved that the clerk updates the conditions of hire and brings them to the next meeting. The clerk was asked to write a free let policy to be brought to the next meeting for approval. It was resolved that all health and safety-related policies are checked and if any are missing these are produced by the clerk. It was resolved that plot one on Limesway Allotments remains as a single plot and is not merged with any other. It was agreed that a working party to be set up to discuss the leases of the allotments. The clerk was asked to contact the secretary of Limesway Allotments to determine if all allotment holders are in agreement over a secure tool shed be placed on the site. If they are, approval is granted. Cllr Bradford reported that some of the lettering on the cenotaph is no longer visible. The clerk informed the meeting that she had spoken to RMBC and that they were going to go and inspect the cenotaph and would get a quote from a stone mason for any work needed. RMBC do hold a small budget and would look into paying for the work required. It was resolved that the Action Plan is a permanent agenda item to ensure that the council is working towards the needs of Maltby residents as set out in the Maltby Plan. It was resolved that the clerk writes a risk assessment for the office, the building and for each desk.

MALTBY TOWN COUNCIL EVENTS COMMITTEE: The meeting was attended by six councillors and town clerk Mrs Kate Butler. Cllr J Andrews was appointed chair and Cllr S Biggin appointed vice-chair. The clerk updated the meeting on the proceedings of the Information Day. It was resolved that the theme for the Civic Service be recognising and celebrating the work that is undertaken within the Maltby community. It was also resolved that the clerk sends invitations to the mayor of Rotherham and consort, Lord and Lady Scarbrough and Sir Kevin Barron MP. It was also resolved that the clerk writes to all schools, community groups, nursing homes etc in Maltby to highlight the Person and Young Person of the Year and ask for nominations. It was agreed that the same format is followed for this year’s firework display as used in previous years and that all services are booked for the event. It was agreed that the clerk books Maltby Progressive Club for the Christmas market stalls as per last year and that DB Entertainment is booked for the stage and that she also looks into other entertainment for the event. Costing for books for the Santa’s Grotto to be brought back to the next meeting.

BEVAN CRESCENT: The Bevan Crescent Group held their weekly coffee morning on Tuesday. On Thursday, the Bevan Crescent/Age UK Rotherham Over 60s group welcomed two new members. The group has announced that the total sum collected for the local boy who suffers from autism was £738.10. There are still a number of unclaimed raffle tickets. Contact Keith Stringer for information 01709 816582. Keith Stringer’s collection in aid of the National Autistic Society in Morrison’s supermarket on August 7 raised £162.

MALTBY TOWN COUNCIL HORTICULTURAL SHOW: This year there were 300 exhibits in the Horticultural Show. Judges viewed top quality entries in both the Allotment and Garden competitions. At the end of the show a number of items donated by exhibitors were auctioned for Maltby Town Council’s charity – Rotherham Hospice – and raised £90.
