GREASBROUGH COMMUNITY BOWLING CLUB: January 11 – Winter Round Robin Singles John Byers, Charles Abson and Maureen Taylor. January 12 – the club played the Winter Round Robin Doubles at Barkers Park but did not have any winners. January 13 – Winter Round Robin Singles Maureen Taylor, David Mee. January 14 – rain stopped play and members resumed their work on the gutters. January 16 – most members came but stayed in the pavilion as the green was frozen. January 18 – Winter Round Robin Ken Herbert, John Byers and Dave Milnes. January 19 – the club lost both of its friendly matches at Barkers Park. January 20 – 21up Doubles John Byers and John Everitt. January 21 – 11up Triples Dot Payne, Winter Round Robin Singles Tom Browne (2) and Robert Clarkson. January 23 – 21up Peter Jackson and Dot Payne, 21up Dennis Routledge and Dave Mee, 11up Maureen Taylor and Dave Milnes. January 26 – the club continued its friendly matches at Barkers Park.

 

ST MARY’S CHURCH: January 18 – 2pm Craft Club met in the school room. January 19 – Sunbeams met in church to listen to Annette’s storytelling about turning water into wine, a craft to acompany the story was made. January 20 – 9.30am Morning Worship was held in church to pray for those in need or suffering illness. January 24 – 10.30am service of Holy Communion was led by Margaret Hollingsworth.

GREASBROUGH COMMUNITY HISTORY SOCIETY/ FRIENDS OF GREASBROUGH PARKS: Members of Greasbrough Community History Society and Friends of Greasbrough Parks recently attended a retirement celebration at Rotherham Town Hall in honour of Pat Michael, neighbourhood development officer for the Greasbrough area. Graham Hobson, secretary of Greasbrough Community History Society, and Jean Bailey, secretary of Friends of Greasbrough Parks, both expressed their gratitude for all the help, support and hard work that Pat provided for the groups. Each group presented Pat with a leaving gift as a token of their appreciation of Pat’s work within the community. Graham Hobson said: “Pat Michael’s input has been instrumental in securing in excess of £50,000 of funding for both groups which has been used to provide local resources and amenities for the Greasbrough community to enjoy in years to come.” Jean Bailey said: “Over the years Pat has been a hardworking friend and great ally of Friends of Greasbrough Parks and she will be sadly missed by many members of the Greasbrough community.”
