ASTON FOOTPATH WALKERS: The eight mile walk on March 10 was from Fox House to Burbage, Stanage, Redmires and Lodge Moor. Yesterday’s walk was a round walk from Cresswell Crags.

 

ASTON-CUM-AUGHTON PARISH COUNCIL: A meeting was held at the Parish Hall on March 8. A resident of the Warren in Aston spoke about the continuing danger posed by speeding traffic through Aston village and asked for some action. A resident reported that now drivers are prohibited to park or drop pupils off at school entrances, they are parking on Aughton Lane and surrounding roads and even on grass verges without any thought for residents. The police report included eight burglaries, seven theft of vehicles, two damaged vehicles, anti-social behaviour incidents and a series of fights relating to pupils at Aston Academy. Various planning applications were discussed and the meeting closed 7.30pm. The next meeting is on April 12 7.15pm. The Annual Parish Meeting took place. The chairperson gave her report outlining the various events backed by the council over the past year. These included such sporting contests as bowling, fishing and cricket. The annual carnival and bonfire, hanging basket and floral displays, Christmas decorations and Nativity were discussed, as were Remembrance Days in Aston and Aughton, local magazine Parish Natter, the involvement of the council with the Reading Room where meetings of the History Group, Reading Group and Crafts Group take place. The community centres in Swallownest and Aughton, the Aughton Early Years Centre, school holidays activities and Disco Queen selection were considered. The clerk gave his report including costs and expenses incurred over the year. Aston-cum-Aughton Recreation Charity was reported on and Aston Charities’ help to needy people in the parish. The meeting closed 8.30pm.
