Wartime sing-a-long draws the crowds to Thurcroft

The sold-out event took place at the Consort Hotel, Thurcroft, on Thursday, with Union Jack bunting lining the walls and guests enjoying a two-course wartime-style meal \_bangers and mash with treacle sponge and custard for dessert \_followed by an afternoon of entertainement.

Joanne Brunt gave a talk recalling memories of a night out in the 1940s, while the Sundial Theatre Group performed tributes to George Formby and Gracie Fields and sketches from comedy show It’s That Man Again.

There were four birthday celebrations on the day, with Ken Barker from Rotherham, Leslie Adams from Kimberworth, Vera Cuncunnan from Rotherham and Alice Roach from Brampton turning 90, 65, 92 and 80 respectively.

At the end of the show, guests took to the dance floor while singer Mike Thacker continued the entertainment.

Event organiser Tracie Midgley said: “Thanks to all who attended \_ it was a fantastic show enjoyed by all.

“Our next 1940s Sing-a-long Afternoon will take place at The Pastures Loge, Mexborough, on Wednesday, December 11, which includes a two course Christmas lunch.

“And on Monday, December 16, The Zoltans 1940s Jumpin’ Jive Band is coming to The Consort Hotel, Rotherham, which also includes a two-course meal.
