Tour de Yorkshire villages encouraged to create land art
The race is passing through a number of villages in our area this year including Hoyland and Elsecar, on its route from the middle of Barnsley to Ilkley in West Yorkshire.
Stage 2 of the race, on Friday, May 4, will also pass through parts of Rotherham and Doncaster, including Wentworth, Swinton, Kilnhurst, Hooton Roberts and Conisbrough.

Members of the public are being encouraged to get involved and race organisers are encouraging local people to get creative by producing “land art” near to the race route.
Businesses, landowners, farmers, schools and community groups are being asked to put their artistic brains together and come up with eye-catching art works.

If you can’t run to something on that scale, bicycle-themed bunting is also welcomed, with a competition for Best Kept Village also underway.
In some areas of Yorkshire people have also previously placed blue and yellow bicycles along the route to create an eye-catching display.
If you want to take part in the Land Art competition, check permission with landowners and ensure the local community is happy with your plans.
