Teen star James (14) to be club's youngest performer

A FOLK club will welcome its youngest ever guest this weekend.

James Haigh, who will perform at Raising the Rafters Folk Club in Wath on Saturday, is only 14 but his musical talent has already been identified by such legendary folk names as Martin Simpson and Martin Carthy and he is making a name for himself in all the local folk and acoustic clubs.

Raising the Rafters organiser Andrew Wild said: “I only had to listen to one song from James at a local folk club to know that he has a prodigious talent.

“He brings songs to life with an amazing guitar style that is the envy of many older and more practised musicians.

“James is by far and away the youngest guest that we have ever welcomed at Raising the Rafters, but he can easily hold his head up alongside musicians much older than himself.”

James recently won the Richard Moody Award for most promising young musician at the Wath Festival 2016 and has the promise to become a household name in years to come.

All the proceeds from the night will be supporting James's choice of charity, Water Aid.

The club will meet in the St. James Rooms, Church Street, Wath from 7.30pm, with the music starting at 8pm.

Admission is £5 on the door.
