Stars of sci-fi come to South Yorkshire

SCI-FI fans will be entertained by stars of Star Wars and Transformers as part of a celebration of the fantastical.

Shoppers are set to be amazed and entertained by stormtroopers patrolling Clock Corner, fairytale princesses and Transformers wandering around Doncaster town centre, plus large Transformers vehicles near the Market Place and an appearance by KITT from Knight Rider.

The attractions are all part of the Doncaster Super Sci-fi Festival on Saturday, September 24.

The festival will take place at the Corn Exchange in Doncaster Market Square, Baxter Gate and Clock Corner, between 10am and 6pm.

The free family fun day will feature stalls, cars and cosplayers — from Anna and Elsa of Frozen to comic book heroes and villains.

There will be professional cosplayers as well as members of the public wearing their own costumes.

Attractions also include kids’ favourite Daisy the Dinosaur, a Monsters University display, a green screen cosplay shoot, a zombie shooting range and table top games.

Entry to the event is free.

Cabinet member for Culture, Cllr Bill Mordue, said: “Events like this bring much loved television, film and comic book characters to life.

“It will transform the town centre for the day into a sci-fi and Disney-style wonderland."

More details will be revealed nearer the time, but you can join the event page on Facebook by searching for Doncaster Super Sci-Fi Festival.
