Second time around for Lisa at lights switch-on

THE Mayoress of Rotherham, Mrs Lisa Wright, will get the festive season under way when she switches on Rotherham’s festive lights on Thursday.

It will be second time that Mrs Wright has switched on the lights— the first time was in 1981 when, as a six-year-old, she helped her grandmother, Cllr Joan Johnston, at the switch-on.

Cllr Johnston was the Mayor in 1981-82.

An estimated 8,000-strong crowd is expected to join the switch-on party in All Saints’ Square, which starts at 4.30pm.

The event will feature Sheffield band Sour Cherry, Rotherham panto star Chico and three performers who have previously reached the judges’ houses stage of the X Factor.

Mrs Wright will push the button on the Christmas lights at 6pm.
