The inaugural Rotherham Sports Awards are on their way!

The inaugural Rotherham Advertiser Sports Awards are on their way!

With a population of over 250,000 Rotherham is home to individuals who dedicate themselves tirelessly to various areas of sport. The town is the birth place of a number of high profile sportspeople including hurdler Chris Rawlinson, Silver medallist Peter Elliot, FIFA international referee Howard Webb and former England goalkeeper David Seaman.

Born and bred in Rotherham, these notable sportspeople were able to achieve their success thanks to the facilities and encouragement found within the region.

It is important to guide and support those that are putting themselves out there by letting them know that their dedication and passion is being recognised. The sporting community of Rotherham is about to receive a great motivational boost and so much more, thanks to the Sports Awards!

With an array of great sporting talent in the local community that is often not given the recognition deserved, the Sports Awards aim to give something back to those who have already given so much. Set to take place on the 23rd March 2017, the awards will put the spotlight on clubs, teams, men, women and juniors – at both amateur and professional levels – who have achieved sporting success, and recognise them with an award at the glittering ceremony.

The Sports Awards will be introduced to the region this year thanks to a newly formed partnership between local newspaper, Rotherham Advertiser, and brand agency, Champions (UK) plc.

Excellence from grassroot level to professionals are showcased across thirteen categories which include: Lifetime Achievement Award, Professional Sportsman of the Year, Professional Sportswoman of the Year, Professional Young Sportsperson of the Year, Team of the Year, Club of the Year, Amateur Sportsman of the Year, Amateur Sportswoman of the Year, Manager/Coach of the Year, Community Award, Volunteer of the Year, Under 19/ School Team of the Year and Junior Sportsperson of the Year.
