Rotherham researcher Sam Turner made industry professor

A FOUNDER researcher at the Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre has been appointed professor of machining practice.

Sam Turner (41) said part of his new role will be to ensure tangible benefits for the industry from the high-tech research done at the site.

He added: “It’s a great honour and comes at an exciting time, when big opportunities are opening up around digital manufacturing.

“I want to ensure the AMRC is recognised as the place to come for state-of-the-art manufacturing science, bringing new technology through the development pipeline that will improve productivity.”

Prof Turner was a founder member of the machining group, which has 85 members and has helped the AMRC group to grow into an organisation with 560 staff and a near-£50 million turnover.
