Rotherham remembers: Crowds gather for Armistice Day tributes

ROTHERHAM fell silent to remember the fallen and mark 100 years since the end of the Great War.

Armistice Day and Remembrance Day fell on the same day for once, giving the town the chance to combine its commemorations on the centenary of the First World War’s final ceasefire.

Rotherham Minster and Clifton Park formed the focal point for the borough’s civic salutes on Sunday, with a parade through the town centre to the historic church followed by another public service at the park’s war memorial.

But there were also numerous events in villages and suburbs throughout the weekend to show respect and give thanks for the sacrifice of those who gave their lives in the First World War and all conflicts through the years.
