Rotherham ‘Heroes’ book selling like ‘hot cakes’

ENTREPRENEUR Mick Mangham has been overwhelmed by interest in his latest book which was penned to raise money to help rehabilitate injured servicemen and women.

The Rotherham businessman, who is joint boss of Rotherham’s MW Entertainments, has already sold 470 copies of Room For Heroes which details his experiences of squaring up to the likes of Mike Tyson and Joe Calzaghe and rubbing shoulders with Mad Frankie Fraser and Great Train Robber Tommy Wibsey during his burgeoning career.

The book was launched to raise funds for Help for Heroes, specifically for the charity’s Phoenix House Recovery Centre in Catterick which aims to help those who have suffered life changing injuries or illnesses while serving and enable them to lead active and independent lives.

Bramley-born Mick said: “I’m so pleased with how the book is selling. It’s gone berserk, absolutely crazy.

“It’s a cause which is so important and I thought that by putting my experiences into a book it might raise some much-needed cash.

“There have been some lively experiences down the years and I hope people enjoy reading about them.”

Mick has been raising funds for Help for Heroes for the last three years and the book is the latest in a line of cash-generating ideas.

He selected the charity with his business partner Sean Wallage, whose brother has completed three tours of Afghanistan as part of the Mercian Regiment.

Events so far have raised £71,000 and along with the money raised through book sales, Mick is preparing to see where £25,000 of the money will be spent next month.

He said: “We’ve been invited to the official opening of Phoenix House on September 17. We called the book Room for Heroes because the plan was to sponsor a room at the facility which will be called the Yorkshire Room.”

Mick’s book is £7.50 (£2.50 will go directly to Help for Heroes) and available from Tourist Information in All Saints Square, Rotherham, Phillip Howard Books in Wickersley or from Mick on 07841 358467.
