Rotherham Choral Society's last performance after 100 years of music

Singers gave a bittersweet performance as they closed their music books for the final time after more than 100 years.

Rotherham Choral Society said the resignation of musical director Rachel Copley for health reasons and falling overall numbers had prompted the move.

The group has been going since 1892 and has put on regular concerts, including an annual carol concert at the Rotherham Minster.

Their performance at Herringthorpe United Reformed Church on April 29,   with special guest musicians from South Yorkshire Police Band, was their last public outing.

Titled Brass and Voices, the show included light music, folk songs and TV themes.

Secretary Elizabeth Hacon said there had been “some fantastic times” over the years.
