Pub celebrates survival with charity event

A PUB which was on the brink of closing down is celebrating an increase in trade by hosting a music-filled charity event.

Staff at the Bridge Inn in Rotherham have organised a day of music and family fun featuring local bands and solo artists in aid of the Rotherham Hospice.

The event will take place from 2pm on May 31.

Manager Olivia Garsed said: “When my husband and I took over in March 2009 the pub was on the verge of closing down after having run at a loss for a good few years.

“We both put our heart and soul into building up trade and some local musicians saw this and fully supported us.

“Due to their help and a lot of hard work the pub is now keeping its head above water and starting to make a steady profit. The pub has also turned into a community hub in the middle of town.

“We have decided to use this community spirit to help out local charities starting with the Rotherham Hospice.

“We are hoping to make it a family day and will have face painting, food and cakes for sale with all proceeds going to the charity.”

The funding pot has already been boosted by a £150 donation to the hospice from the Old Mill brewery.
