Pimms and punting make perfect hen weekend

HAVE you ever been to Oxford? Well until last weekend, it was a place I’d never been to, but always fancied it.

And it didn’t let me down. Oxford is an extremely pretty and picturesque city which is well worth a visit.

I was actually there for a hen party, a very classy affair (well for most of it anyway) which involved, wait for it...PUNTING.

How much fun is punting?! I must admit, when I first set eyes on the extensive metal pole and piddly wooden oar, I felt somewhat anxious.

I was eyeing up my friends to see which ones looked the most confident before choosing which vessel I sailed in.

No offence to anyone but I did select the right sailing team in the end.

OK so we hit a few trees and I got nettled, not to mention the pond weed that slipped down my back, but the key thing is that we made it to the pub for a mid-voyage jug o’ Pimms.

No-one fell in, we all had a go with the stick and my top tip to anyone planning to punt is wear flat shoes and feed the pole through your hands, just don’t stick it too far in the mud.

It really was a lot of fun and if you don’t mind getting a bit wet and apologising to the professionals as you barge into their boats, then get booked in.

We followed our river adventure with a delicious light lunch (I had bream) before heading back to the apartments wed rented for the weekend for a cupcake, pot of tea and a nap (well we are 30 somethings now).

After our little kip, energised and dressed up to the nines, we headed into town for some cocktails and dancing. Much to my delight, as we stepped into the club, the sweet sounds of the Backstreet Boys powered through the speakers and just like the olden days of university, we executed the exact routine much to the bemusement of other clubbers.

Then came the likes of Blue, Bon Jovi and can you believe it Bewitched—prompting the bride-to-be to perform a spectacular Irish jig. it was the ultimate cheese fest and it knocked years off me.

I think with the punting and dancing I burned off about 600 calories. I made up for it with a cheeky slice of pizza when I got in though!
