FORGET 5ive - Rotherham’s own teen heart-throb Alfie Sheard was mobbed by adoring fans after wowing a festival crowd.

The Wickersley busker - who hit international headlines and was sent a signed guitar by chart-topper Ed Sheeran after clocking up millions of YouTube views - performed at T-Fest in Tickhill on Saturday.

After enjoying a taste of the teen idol attention enjoyed by boyband members Sean, Scott and Richie since the 1990s, Alfie said: “It is just crazy.

“I did a 40-minute set and was having photos with people for about an hour and a half.

“It’s happened before but nothing like on this scale.

“Playing to an 8,000 crowd was just amazing.”

Alfie (16) has spent much of the summer in America meeting key music industry figures and said he was now working on writing new material.

He revealed he had been so busy he had not even found time to open his GCSE results.

More than 30 artistes performed across two stages at the weekend, including South Yorkshire’s Bang Bang Romeo, The Reyton, The Dunwells, The Resistance, The Outcharms, Saints Among Us, and the Wilson Ellis Band.

Punk pop act Home Wrecked and rockers Groom Lake Fugitives finished off the musical entertainment at Tickhill Cricket Ground, while Nineties Music Experience (NME) had the crowd dancing to retro tunes.

Family activities on the day, which also supported cancer charities Firefly and Cancer Research UK, included pole jousting, foot darts, craft stalls, and water walkers.
