Panto crowd best in nine years

MORE than 25,500 people watched Cinderella at the Civic — making it Rotherham’s most popular panto in nine years.

The rags-to-riches fairytale ran from December 1 to January 8 and starred Maureen Nolan from the Nolan Sisters and The X Factor’s Sophie Wysoczanski.

Cllr Taiba Yasseen, Rotherham Borough Council’s advisory Cabinet member for cultural services said: “I would like to thank every single person for coming along to see the pantomime, and supporting their local theatre venue.

“It proved to be a really enjoyable experience for audiences aged from four to 94.

“This fantastic production has provided wonderful family entertainment at reasonable ticket prices. We hope that people put a date in their diary for a return visit to this year’s pantomime, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, to make it another huge success.”

Upcoming shows at the Civic include music from Hue and Cry, Maddy Prior In Concert, comedian Roy Chubby Brown and family productions such as The Chris and Pui Show and The Railway Children.

Tickets, including for the 2016/17 panto, can be bought from the box office at Rotherham Visitor Centre, by calling 01709 823621 or visiting www.rotherhamtheatres.co.uk.
