Minster service to raise autism awareness

ROTHERHAM Minster is to hold its a service to mark the International Day of Prayer for Autism and Asperger’s Syndrome this weekend.

More than one in 100 people in the UK have autism, and the international day highlights the challenges families affected by the condition experience and the importance of providing them with appropriate support.

The service which begins at 10.30am on Sunday (FEB 9) will be led by the Bishop of Doncaster, the Rt Rev Peter Burrows, who will also preach the sermon.

Also attending will be the Mayor and Mayoress of Rotherham, Cllr John Foden and Mrs Kath Foden, the South Yorkshire Police and Crime Commissioner Shaun Wright and the District Commander for Rotherham at South Yorkshire Police Chief Supt Jason Harwin along with staff and service users from the Rotherham branch of the National Autistic Society and Autism Plus.
