Hide AdEdgar Holloway – regarded by some as Doncaster’s greatest artist – was born in May 1914 in Mexborough.
He was the son of a picture framer and left school at 14 to pursue watercolouring and etching.
By the age of 20, he had staged successful exhibitions and created portraits of such famous people as literary greats Stephen Spender, Herbert Read and TS Eliot.
In 1933, he moved from London back to Doncaster before moving back to the capital a year later.
