Launch of new community cafe

A POP-UP café will appear in Kilnhurst next week thanks to the endeavours of the local church.

Café Encounter will open its doors in a big marquee in the grounds of St Thomas’ Church on Highthorn Road on Tuesday and will run until Saturday from 9am to 4.30pm, serving tea, coffee, cakes and light lunches.

Church leaders hope the café will become the hub for a week of special community events, with fun and games for all ages and all the family.

Vicar of Kilnhurst, Rev Andy Brewerton, said: “Here at St Thomas’, we love meeting new people, and when we thought about how that could happen, a café seemed the obvious answer.

“We’e planning a fun-packed week of exciting activities, in and around our pop-up café.”

Mr Brewerton explained that the week would include a ladies’ Pots and Puddings evening, a men’s BBQ and games night, and a Moose Party, especially for primary school kids.

“We’re inviting the whole community to come and join us for a cuppa and to enjoy some time together,” he said.

“We’ll be offering a simple menu of freshly prepared meals, snacks and cakes at very reasonable prices. There’s even free wi-fi.”
