Kimberworth mum Lindsy takes baby steps towards half-marathon record

A RUNNING mum will attempt to break a world record by becoming the fastest woman to complete a half marathon while pushing a pram.

Lindsy James (37), a member of Kimberworth Striders Running Club, has used a specially-adapted pram since giving birth to Archie in September.

She will take part in the Ramathon — Derby’s half marathon — when she will try to beat the time of 1hr 30mins 51secs, set by American Nancy Schubring in 2001.

Lindsy said: “I’m excited and apprehensive as I’ll need to be stronger and fitter than I’ve ever been, as well as improving my buggy navigational skills.

“Archie will be nearly nine months and at least a stone by race day. He is loving our training runs... it’s when he does his best sleeping!”

Ramathon officials are busy with preparations to ensure Lindsy’s time can be verified under Guinness World Record rules.

Lindsy lost mum Lynn to cancer in April last year and will be raising money for Macmillan Cancer Support — Ramathon’s official charity partner — and Rotherham Hospice at the June race.

She said: “I want to achieve this for everyone who is going through cancer and their family and friends.”

Event co-ordinator Emma Evans said: “We’re both in awe of Lindsy for taking on such a daring challenge and extremely excited about the potential for the Ramathon to witness a world record being broken.

“It is wonderful that these charities will benefit from Lindsy’s efforts.” Follow Lindsy’s story at buggyrunning.blogspot.co.uk.
