JUBILEE: Crowning photo comes to light...

MATTHEW Allott was king for a day as the Queen celebrated 25 years on the throne.

Matthew, then four, won the crown-making competition for the Silver Jubilee celebration at Herringthorpe Junior and Infant School in 1977.

But he had not seen a photo of his crowning moment until a few weeks ago.

Matthew, now 49 and of Wickersley Road, Herringthorpe, said: “I had never seen this photo until two weeks ago when Damian Andrew, who is also in the photo, sent it to me.

“I remember making the crown and I remember winning — but I don’t look happy about that.”

Matthew said the Queen clocking up 70 years on the throne was “unbelievable”, adding: “I cannot believe where all the time has gone since that photo was taken.”
