Innovative health app up for national award

AN “INNOVATIVE” app that enables young patients to access mental health support in confidence via their mobile phones or tablets has been nominated for a national award.

The eClinics service – run by Rotherham Doncaster and South Humber Foundation Trust – has made the shortlist for the 2023 HSJ Patient Safety Awards in the category of 'Improving Care for Children and Young People Initiative of the Year'.

The free instant messaging service enables young people aged between 11 and 18 to self-refer and talk to a CAMHS (Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services)practitioner via their mobile device.

Christina Harrison, director for children’s services at RDaSH, said: “We want to provide the best care possible for the children, young people, their families or carers who use our services.

“E-clinics mean our patients and their care-givers can access us easily from their own home or where they feel safe to communicate via messaging in confidence via their mobile phones or tablets.

“I’m so pleased the team is shortlisted.

“Our staff are so dedicated to delivering the best service that they can for the children and young people they serve that I’m so pleased that this hard work is being recognised.”

Dr David Crichton, Chief Medical Officer at NHS South Yorkshire said: “We are rightly proud of our South Yorkshire colleagues who have been recognised in this year’s HSJ Patient Safety Award shortlist.

“There is some innovative work taking place across South Yorkshire and it’s great to have teams from our region on this prestigious shortlist.”
