History of Mexborough’s pubs in focus

PUB landlords and punters from throughout the ages will come under the spotlight at a meeting next week.

Mexborough and District Heritage Society’s latest meeting, next Wednesday at 7.15pm, will focus on the town’s pint-pulling, beer-swilling history.

Bill Lawrence, who will present a talk titled Last Orders At the Bar, said: “The society has, over the last two years, researched the heritage and history of Mexborough’s pub and clubs.

“The talk will ask and hopefully answer such question as which is the oldest pub in Mexborough which is still standing, how many pubs and clubs have there been and who were Mexborough's landlords.

“Come along and join in the discussion and tell us about your stories and experiences of pub and club life in Mexborough.”

The meeting takes place at the Concertina Band Club, Dolcliffe Road, Mexborough at 7.15pm on Wednesday, February 24.

Entry is £2.50 for non-members, £1.50 for members and £1 for the unemployed.
