Hero Ben Parkinson leads Conisbrough Castle remembrance tribute

HERO ex-paratrooper Ben Parkinson did the honours as Conisbrough Castle was turned into a beacon of remembrance.

The Doncaster veteran was invited by English Heritage to switch on the huge poppy projection on Friday night following a day of wartime and remembrance-themed activities at the landmark fortification.

Elsewhere, Scouts and cadets marched in Mexborough ahead of a parade and remembrance service at Castle Hills Park.

The Doncaster Road pade had been in doubt until Mexborough Neighbourhood Network seal a road closure with days to spare.

There was also a healthy attendance at Flower Park in Thurnscoe, where the village’s new vicar, Rev Sarah Maughan, led Remembrance Day proceedings for the first time.
