Glummer Twins preview new show in Rotherham

MOST people might say that growing old is no fun — the Glummer Twins disagree.

Ray Globe and David Harmer - both “the wrong side of 60” - will explain why on a one-week tour of the Edinburgh Fringe, where they last performed in 1985.

But first the duo will first preview their new show in Rotherham, Ray’s home town, next week.

For one night only the pair will play Riverside House, showcasing their own brand of “stand-up poetry for the beat generation”.

In past showbiz lives, Ray and David toured around Europe with renowned act Circus of Poets, alongside Ian McMillan and John Turner.

After decades off in “respectable jobs”, the Glummer Twins spent a year gigging around South Yorkshire perfecting their new act.

Ray admits the new venture is partly “an attempt to recapture lost youth” - but also a celebration of ageing.

“We think we have something special to offer Edinburgh audiences,” he said.

“Being the wrong side of 60 certainly gives you a different perspective on life, so we’re trying to put a positive spin on getting older.

“Yes there are the moans, the groans, the shakes, indigestion, the bit that aches.

“But there are plenty of reasons to be cheerful. Why worry about old age? After all, it doesn’t last that long.”

Their irreverent one-hour show will tackle middle aged men in lycra, trainspotters, elderly rappers and ageing mods.

Unhealthy eating, turning 60, funerals, foreign holidays and buying a used car in Doncaster also feature.

The Glummer Twins will grace Riverside House at 7pm on Wednesday.

Tickets cost £3 on the door or in advance from the Riverside Library.
