Get on your bike at Ulley

ULLEY Country Park will be the back drop for a leisurely group bike ride this weekend.

Organised by British Cycling in partnership with Rotherham Borough Council, the ride on Sunday, August 17, is one of a series taking place in Rotherham this summer and autumn.

Several rides have already taken place around Clifton Park, Rother Valley Country Park and Tickhill areas.

Volunteer ride leader Matthew Lowe said: “I started riding a bike again five years ago after stopping when I was in my late teens.

“I got a bike through the Cycle to Work scheme and after riding it the two mile home I was worn out.

“After a few years of commuting and rides at the weekend, I don’t even notice it.

“I’ve discovered how much fun it is to ride a bike.”

The Ulley ride  - entitled Ancient and Modern Architecture - will set out from the country park for an 11-mile journey along the quiet back lanes from the park to Laughton en Le Morthen, passing though the villages of Ulley, Brampton, Thurcroft, Laughton and Morthen.

Along the way you will take in the amazing views of the Penny Hill wind farm and by contrast the 12th Century Laughton Parish Church.

Suitable for adults, and children aged eight and over, the ride is classed as a steady ride, meaning that if you are fairly confident on your bike and would like to broaden your cycling horizons, then this ride is ideal for you.

The ride will leave Ulley Country Park on Sunday, August 17 at 2pm, and is expected to take around 75 minutes.

Children aged 8 to 15 must ride with an adult.

Car parking is available at Ulley Country Park (small charge applies).

All rides must be pre-booked via the Sky Ride website at www.goskyride.com/rotherham.
