Gardeners needed to show off their work for fundraising ramble

A POPULAR ramble around blooming great gardens is making a return but more proud gardeners are needed to show off their prized plots.

Swinton Garden Trail is back on June 25 and several gardeners have already signed up to welcome visitors.

But organiser Marilyn Tinsley, who is among those preparing her flowerbeds and planters for scrutiny, is keen to boost the line-up.

She said there were no requirements beyond “a nice garden” but some participants often chose to serve refreshments or run stalls.

Over the years, the trail raised more than £45,000 for Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice before going on an extended break.

This time around, proceeds will go towards funding a new community hall at St Margaret’s Church in Swinton.

“The idea is to have a hall not just for the church but for everyone,” said Marilyn.

“I have grandchildren, as have a lot of other people, and hopefully as they get older there will be a place in Swinton for younger and older people to go.

“It’s going to be really good for people of all ages.”

The trail so far includes gardens in Brookfield Avenue, Racecourse Road and Pownell Avenue and most are within walking distance of each other.

You can start the trail at 94 Racecourse Road or 14 Brookfield Avenue.

Anyone keen to get involved should call Marilyn on 01709 587932.
