GHOULISH goings-on, animal magic and a “spooky” sports day made for a suitably scary Hallowe’en.

.5b1Thornberry Animal Sanctuary held a day of Hallowe’en fun and games on Saturday, while children enjoyed pumpkin bcarving at the Gordon Bennett Memorial Hall in Thurcroft the previous day.

Theatre and performing arts students at Rotherham College featured in a ghost walk around the town centre and coaches from Rotherham United Community Sports Trust dressed as skeletons led a spooky sports day in Canklow.

The Gift Box shop in Maltby held its annual Hallowe’en fancy dress competition for kids, with seven-year-old Brooke Hern winning for her spooky skeleton outfit and scooping a helium balloon, goodie bag and toy of her choice.

And there was plenty of creepy fun to be had at Gallow Tree Road in Brecks as the Hallowe’en-loving Charlton family once again pulled out all the stops to turn their garden into a celebration of the macabre, with more than 80 pumpkins.

Proceeds from the event — which raised a bumper £1,400 — will go to Weston Park Hospital’s Teenage Cancer Unit in memory of family friend Alex Albiston, who died aged 18.
