Fund-raiser for girl with rare disorder

A GYM is opening its doors on Sunday to host a range of activities that will raise money for a little girl with a rare chromosome disorder.

Gemma Hazzard has organised the Charity Day for Lily-May at Xercise4Less on Greasborough Street, Rotherham.

Lily-May Earp (4) has a rare chromosome abnormality and is understood to be the only documented case in the world with her specific condition.

She needs specialist equipment as she grows, but a specialist bed, bath and ceiling tracking to manoeuvre her around her home will cost £14,600 in total.

Family friend Gemma (29) said she wanted to organise an event to help towards the cost of the equipment that will go in the Maltby home.

Gym members and non-gym members will be able to get involved with the activities on Sunday (June 7).

Non-members are being asked to pay a flat rate of £5 and members can pay £2 per class, or £5 for three classes.

Classes will run from 9am to 12.45pm and include circuits, 20/20/20, zumba and matball.

There will also be a bake sale and a raffle drawn on the day.

As well as a heart defect, Lily-May has learning difficulties and a curved spine.

She is also unable to speak and is prone to chest infections and reflux.

Gemma added: “Despite all Lily-May’s conditions she is a determined diva who is meeting huge milestones every day, which her consultants never thought she would.”

A fundraiser held in Maltby on Friday night by promoter Rob Jones and featuring the Diamond Divas raised £1,000 towards the bed.

A collection was made and the bingo and raffle winners also donated their winnings.
