Elsecar Park: Green Flag awarded for 16th consecutive time

IT was a case of sweet 16 for a prize-winning park after it was given the green light to keep on raising the Green Flag.

Elsecar Park secured Keep Britain Tidy’s seal of approval for nature and green spaces for the 16th time in a row.

The 18-hectare park boasts a reservoir, nature reserve, the Teep Cup café, a children’s play area and a new toddler cycle track.

The reservoir is a popular spot for anglers and walkers with links to the Trans Pennine Trail.

Carlton Marsh near Cudworth, meanwhile was recognised with its first Green Flag Award.

Cllr James Higginbottom, Barnsley’s Council cabinet spokesperson for environment and highways, said he was proud of the honour, adding: “These awards are a testament to the hard work of our parks team and volunteers at Carlton Marsh Wildlife Group and Friends of Elsecar Park who put in so much time and effort to protect these beautiful green spaces along with our countryside rangers and neighbourhoods team.”
