Easter clouds have a silver lining for Magna Centre

ROTHERHAM’S Magna Science Adventure Centre says bad weather over Easter helped it to record visitors figures.

The centre saw the highest number of visitors through its doors on an Easter Monday for eight years.

The centre says that the 1,556 people who visited the former steelworks at Templeborough in the bad weather was the highest number on an Easter Monday since 2004.

It was also nearly three times as many as on Easter Monday last year, when 569 turned up on what was a very hot and sunny day. And it was the highest daily total for more than three years.

Even before the end of Easter break this year, by the end of Thursday (12th), 8,713 visitors had turned up. This compares to 7,551 across the whole of the two-week break last year.

And hundreds even braved the cold at Magna's outdoor play areas Sci-Tek, which features trampoline nets, spinning bowls, tilted roundabouts, twisted slides as well as rockets and castles, and Aqua-Tek - one of UK's largest outdoor water play areas.

During the holidays there was also a series of workshops giving children the chance to make slime; handle creepy crawlies like tarantulas and snakes, and meet cuddly Easter bunnies and chicks.

There was also the opportunity to “drive” a Formula One simulator at speeds of up to 220mph.
