Dementia charity needs musicians

ROTHERHAM dementia charity Lost Chord is looking for new musicians as it extends its services.

The charity provides interactive musical sessions for people living with dementia in care homes and day centres across the region.

Now, working with the Doncaster and Rotherham Alzheimer's Society and also with Sheffield’s Northern General Hospital Dementia Unit, Darnall Dementia Day Centre and the Sheffield branch of Age UK, Lost Chord is providing music at memory cafés and other new venues throughout the region.

But to make the events a success, more musicians are needed to take part.

“We have been working very closely with Liz Hopkinson of the Alzheimer's Society to establish this exciting and very important new series of memory cafés in Doncaster and Rotherham and we are also extending our services in Sheffield,” said Lost Chord chief executive Helena Muller.

“The memory cafes reach out to a very different group of people than we meet in our usual Lost Chord sessions in residential homes and they are often considerably younger so their musical tastes will reflect the trends of the 1960s and 1970s.

“This would be a fantastic opportunity for any musician to discover what an extraordinary impact music can have in providing positive stimulation for a person learning to live with dementia.

“We are looking for musicians with good performance experience, who have the ability to connect with people and the time to make a difference.”
