Deaf and hard of hearing will go to the Civic

A “SIGNED and relaxed” performance of Rotherham’s pantomime will be staged at the Civic Theatre next week.

The Tuesday morning performance of Cinderella will be signed for the deaf and hard of hearing and extra staff to assist with access and seating.

Extra lighting will be provided and the audience will be free to leave the auditorium at any point.

The borough council’s Cabinet member for culture, Cllr David Roche, said: “Relaxed performances are designed to provide a more comfortable experience for adults or children who may find it difficult to sit still and stay quiet for the full duration of a performance or who may feel uncomfortable when a show has a lot of flashing lights and noisy special effects.

“During relaxed performances, theatre staff won't ask the audience to keep quiet and don't mind if people move around or come in and out of the auditorium whilst the show is on.

“Extra lighting is provided during the performance and fewer special effects are used, helping to create a calm and relaxed experience.

“There has always been a great response to relaxed performances in the past and it show the wonderful dedication theatre staff have when it comes to ensuring the Christmas season is shared by everyone.
