Could you knit a Christmas jumper for a skinny pig?

A WILDLIFE centre is asking for the public’s help as part of a festive competition just for fun.

The Tropical Butterfly House, Wildlife and Falconry Centre in North Anston is asking knitting enthusiasts to create jumpers for its new skinny pigs and their babies.

Skinny pigs are an almost hairless breed of guinea pig and the centre now has four after Fluffy and Baldrick welcomed two new babies to the world on November 19.

For knitters wishing to take part in the competition the centre said a sensitive yarn should be used which would not irritate the skinny pigs’ hairless skin.

Mum and dad are approximately nine inches long and 11 inches in circumference and their babies are currently three inches long and five inches in circumference.

Entrants can send their miniature jumpers, along with their contact details by January 4, to:

Louise Larcombe, marketing manager, Tropical Butterfly House Centre, Woodsetts Road, North Anston, Sheffield, S25 4EQ.

Photos of the entrants jumpers will be shared on the centre’s website and social media.

The creator of the centre’s favourite jumper will win afternoon tea for two and a cuddle with the skinny pigs.
